Perfect Pie Dough

Sam's Fresh Blackberry Cobbler

Basic Pie Dough Recipe

2 cups Domata Living Flour
¼ teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter flavored vegetable shortening
¼ cup ice water

Measure salt and Domata Living Flour into a mixing bowl, mix on low speed.

  1. Cut in shortening thoroughly with pastry cutter; do not use your hands.
  2. Sprinkle in ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  3. Continue mixing until all flour is moistened and dough cleans sides of bowl, 1 or 2 additional tablespoons of ice water can be added, if necessary, but only enough to pull the dough together. If needed add flour, one tablespoon at a time.
  4. Rollout final dough on lightly floured wax paper, place dough on wax paper in freezer for twenty (20) minutes before placing in pie pan.
  5. For a baked shell, prick bottom and sides with fork, bake at 425 degree Fahrenheit for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
  6. When pie needs top dough repeat recipe above. Crimp edges of two crusts together to seal. With sharp knife, make several crosshatch slits in the top crust.
  7. Brush with egg wash and bake according to pie filling recipe.
